(Living Nativity - 6:00 PM on 20 December --NOTE TIME DIFFERENCE!)
Advent means "the coming". We are right in the middle of the Season of Advent, an expectanct time. While in the northern hemisphere the earth's dormant season begins, we await the birth of the Christ-child - which sounds a little weird since we know Jesus was born, lived and died over 2000 years ago!
So what does it mean to be expecting a child whose birth has already taken place, and whose life (as we know it) is over? The Good News is that death wasn't the end. Jesus left us with his Peace and sent the Spirit to enliven us so we might carry on what he began. So to live expectantly in this time is to invite the living Christ may be borne anew in each of us.
How might we be like John the Baptist - on fire for God's message to be shared?
How might we be like Joseph, who reached deep into his faith to be merciful and remain humble?
On this third Sunday of Advent, we might consider how we will be like Mary, touched by the Holy Spirit, who bore God into the world?
